‘CSK’s Philosophy Doesn’t Favor Drastic Changes,’ Says Matthew Hayden Pre-LSG Clash
The five-time champion Chennai Super Kings are in last place going into Monday’s Indian Super League matchup against the Lucknow Super Giants. They have lost five straight games after winning their IPL 2025 opener. Chennai has only two points from six games, therefore there is not much time left for them to try to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs.
Will CSK attempt to make significant changes in an attempt to revive their IPL 2025 campaign, given that their season is already in jeopardy? According to former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden, it would go against their DNA.
Since it’s simply not ingrained in CSK’s DNA, I doubt significant changes will occur. Their strategy will probably be to trust the process and back yourself. They need to find a way to stand out even if they aren’t the club that scores 60 runs in the powerplay. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different outcomes turns into insanity if nothing changes. It’s unclear if they will acknowledge and take action on that, but something has to change,” Hayden stated.
What has also harmed Chennai this season is that they have already lost three games in a row at Chepauk, their home ground.
Despite their reluctance to make significant changes in the middle of the season, Chennai had to make a drastic adjustment when captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined for the 2025 IPL season due to a fractured elbow. CSK replaced Gaikwad with Mumbai opener Ayush Mhatre, 17, and named longtime talisman Mahendra Singh Dhoni as their captain for the remainder of the IPL season.
