Bumrah Reunites with MI Ahead of Crucial Clash Against RCB
“The Lion Has Returned”—Jasprit Bumrah Joins Mumbai Indians(MI) Ahead of RCB Clash Mumbai
Indians stirred excitement on Saturday with a powerful announcement: “The Lion is Back and ready to be the King of this Jungle again.” That roar echoed louder with the confirmation that India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has officially rejoined the Mumbai Indians camp.
His arrival comes at a crucial time for the five-time IPL champions, who are set to play their fifth match of the season—and only their second at the Wankhede—against a strong Royal Challengers Bengaluru side on Monday, April 7.
Mumbai’s start to IPL 2025 has been far from ideal, with just one win in four games placing them seventh in the standings. Historically slow starters in the tournament, Mumbai Indians will be hoping that Bumrah’s comeback marks a shift in momentum.
Captain Hardik Pandya had already hinted at Bumrah’s return recently, stating during the Lucknow fixture, “Jasprit should be back soon.” Now, that return has become reality.
Bumrah has been sidelined since January, undergoing evaluation and rehab under the Sports Science team at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Following multiple assessments, he’s now cleared to participate in the league.
While it’s not yet officially confirmed if he’ll feature in the upcoming match, signs point towards a likely inclusion. A final decision is expected after Bumrah’s net session on Sunday evening. Given his clearance and match readiness, Mumbai Indians fans can look forward to seeing their ace pacer back in action very soon.
Jasprit Bumrah has been grappling with recurring back issues that have interrupted his otherwise stellar career. After enduring a heavy workload during the Test series in Australia, he developed a back swelling that forced him to miss India’s limited-overs matches against England at home. He also had to sit out the Champions Trophy campaign in Dubai, held between February and March, where India emerged victorious.
This wasn’t the first time Bumrah’s back had troubled him. In fact, a more serious injury had previously kept him away from international cricket for nearly 11 months—from September 2022 until his return in August 2023. During that period, he underwent surgery and extensive rehabilitation. He finally made his comeback in a T20I against Ireland.
Bumrah’s performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia was nothing short of exceptional. Leading India’s bowling attack in two of the five Tests, he picked up 32 wickets and was deservedly named Player of the Series. However, his campaign was cut short by injury, causing him to miss the final day of the Sydney Test. Without their pace spearhead, India couldn’t hold off Australia, who went on to clinch the series and reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Since making his debut in 2013, Jasprit Bumrah has become Mumbai Indians’ second-leading wicket-taker in India Primer Leuge history, with an impressive 165 wickets from 133 appearances—trailing only the legendary Lasith Malinga.
